This study assesses the potential environmental impacts related to energy valorization of agro-food industry waste thought Life Cycle Assessment methodology (ISO 14040). The system examined consists a real anaerobic digester coupled with combined and heat power plant (AD-CHP) operating in Sicily. analysis accounts for all occurring from delivery biomass AD-CHP up electricity generation CHP. main outcomes include eco-profile providing assessment contribution each life cycle phase aimed at identifying improvement area. obtained results highlight that direct emissions associated biogas combustion process CHP account 66% impact on climate change, feedstock transport contributes 64% mineral, fossil fuels, renewable depletion. caused by consumption is relevant many categories examined. It ranges minimum about 22% change 82% freshwater ecotoxicity. Then actions reducing can significantly improve performances
